Why we're hosting Gator-Go 5K
Giving back to the community has always been a big part of Kappa Sigma's history. So has the alligator, the chapter’s unofficial mascot. Marry the two and what do you get? ‘Gator-Go 5K,’ Alpha-Beta’s first ever 5K run to benefit the HEROs foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to helping children affected by HIV/AIDS in Georgia.
The HEROs program, which stands for “Hearts Everywhere Reaching Out,” began at UGA two years ago and has since blossomed into a significant philanthropy for the Athens area. Alpha-Beta hopes to establish a similar HEROs chapter at Mercer, helping Macon-area kids infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS to achieve a better quality of life. Proceeds from the race will go to the UGA chapter and, based upon the event’s success, toward the creation of a Mercer HEROs chapter.
